oh yeah i can add hydroponics to the WRS connectable list easy, if they have the fuel comp for water active, i actually forgot the option existed while setting up the WRS, there's lots going on

Eliminate the hydroponics' water consumption altogether (or by the percentage of linked toilets) if a recycling facility is connected to both them and the toilets.

Just assume that the reclaimed water equals what is used by the hydroponics, minus a small amount 'for realism', and call it a day.

I certainly didn't mean to suggest simulating the full water cycle!
I agree that this would be ridiculously complicated - and is not even possible.

However, would this be feasible?
- The water consumption of hydroponics per day is known.
- The median(!) growing time of plants is known.
- The nutritional value of meals cooked with these plants is known.
- The nutritional value needed to fulfil each pawn's hunger per day is known.
- Finally, the number of bowl visits per day is known.

So, hydroponic water consumption and toilet usage are interconnected.

It should be possible to find a reasonable amount of water 'produced' with every toilet visit. An amount to offset the consumption by hydroponics without overshooting and therefore 'magically' creating more water than is consumed.
There is no need to keep track of the exact amount used at each stage.

Thank you for this mod. Whatever approach you take (if any), I will continue to enjoy using it.

There were problems after the update. I couldn't take a shower and the pawn pieces had a waiting bug.

the vac toilet doesn't use water, and showers and basins don't use water if you have the wrs, when it comes to everything else you just have to extract water from asteroids or the planet.

we cant do anything more than that since food isn't made with water, and adding water content tracking for every modded food item that exists plus adding water tracking to plant life cycle and a custom cooking system to track the water usage for a soup vs a burger is way out of the scope of this mod

Do hydroponics actually *consume* water (if this option is enabled)? I think they do.
If so, I believe a more efficient recycling system is needed.
Rather than ejecting waste into space, it should be collected and recycled to refill the water storage.

Of course, a certain amount of loss would be reasonable.
However, spaceships should be self-sufficient for a long time without needing to refill the water reserves.

I have an idea, which I suspect requires c#, and as such is outside of my abilities

but
I would love if I could hook up the grav engine to to the water system and use it for cooling
I imagine doing this would:
1: speed up cooling post jump
2: disable the overheating event

is this feasible do you think?

Ok, went to an asteroid in orbit and was still able to shower fine in my ship. False alarm based on Dub's wording hehe

This update is amazing, but by comparison, I prefer that patch for SOS2.It would be best if the anti-gravity core can provide a basic amount of water resources, say 100 liters, to meet the survival needs inside the spacecraft.

Updated.

Water grid no longer generates in space
New ice grids generate on asteroids.
Added Cryogenic extraction node that needs to slowly heat up and melt the ice to pipe it, then if it loses power or breaks down it refreezes and has to heat up again.
Added 1000L single cell water storage tank.
Added Vac toilet which pipes to a sewage dump port to eject waste directly into space, requiring no water or sewage capacity.
Added Water recovery system which allows all connected showers and sinks to recover all the water used.
pawns shouldn't be able to do their business on the floor in a vacuum anymore, or use toilets or showers in a vacuum.

I believe you are thinking of ReGrowth that had bathing zones. It is in the process of being updated, so there is no need to add it to his mod.

Is there any chance you can add a 'bathing' zone. I have no idea what 1.5 mod gave this zone, but when playing in tribal times, starting technology for hygiene is any open water sources (marked by zone)

End conclusion- bathing zone should be in hygiene tab and available at animal tech level

I'd rather there just be an "upgraded" deep well that you put on the ship to draw water from ice than removing it totally. Or make it an option. Thanks for keeping your mods updated. Too used to playing with Hygiene now haha.

Suggestions: Please remove water map from asteroids/orbital platforms so that water can't be pulled from space rock. Add a Transfer Contents feature to water storage devices similar to how Nutrient Paste Network or Chemfuel network Expanded mods allow you to transfer from one storage container to the other.

Secondary Suggestions: Add some kind of device similar to what Matt Damon's character from The Martian builds by burning rocket fuel in his oxygenator to create water. For balance it should burn chemfuel at a similar rate to a chemfuel generator (maybe a little bit less) and produce a fairly limited amount of water per day. Alternate options: Add ice asteroids (base game already has solid ice walls, but mining them currently produces no resources) that could be mined for ice chunks that could maybe be thrown into some kind of building with a hopper that melts the ice and adds it to connected network.

Well, actually, that's *exactly* how it works! ;)
In my previous contribution, I suggested sonic showers. This was a silly idea, at least as a single solution.

What we need is an actual water recycling system!
You know, recycling the waste liquids from your body. You could use the recycled water for hydroponics - I always use this mechanic - and yes, you could even drink it. (I don't use the thirst mechanic, though some might.)

This would give off serious 'Expanse' vibes and be awesome! :)

In my colony humans and animals do not drink, despite they sill need hygiene and to go to the toilet. So all in all they do not have thirst.
