wow, I really liked this one. the puzzle solving was pretty darn well planned. very fun to play.
my only complaint is the paint blobs flying around, which are totally unnecissary. i'd occasionally hit one while flying through the air, thus throwing me off course
Ancellus 10 Oct, 2014 @ 3:08pm
this test was by far the best

The best puzzle I have played by you so far!

Great puzzle! Took some figuring out. I like it

2,5 stars? hell what a strange world... this is a superb map, thanks for the job. One little thing: man, the water is not necessary, i hated to fall in when i unlocked the cube from the other room :p but nice one, i really enjoyed it ^^
MachManX 21 Sep, 2013 @ 9:40pm
This was a better puzzle than the usual. You had to do strategy and puzzle-solving in the main room while some thinking and puzzle-solving in the other rooms. I especially loved the laser-platform room. Brought me back memories of Megaman 2: Wily Stage 1 before the 1st long ladder :D So I congratulate you for doing so. Great job on this chamber.
wildgoosespeeder 19 Sep, 2013 @ 12:15am
This one seems to have a lot of redundancy. Also rampant symbol recycling.

Try my map?

I wish you could put hints throughout the level to give me some idea what I'm supposed to do.
Watermelon Pie 27 Aug, 2013 @ 11:52am
I really love it, one of the hardest map I've ever try
DropTheDodongo 24 Aug, 2013 @ 2:25am
I didn't have to, I just set it down so I could place some portals and when I went to grab it, it was gone. The top corner of it is effective through the grate, so even if the cube bounces there by accident, it will be destroyed. I know it's entirely circumstantial, but it was still a massive headache.

It's the fizzler nearest to the entrance, and the effective top corner is the one nearest the entrance, as well.
nicklonium  [author] 24 Aug, 2013 @ 2:20am
F6 is quick save. The player shouldn't placing anything on top of a fizzler, the fizzlers in the first room are just to deactivate/dodge , the player should never have to place an item on top of a fizzler.
DropTheDodongo 23 Aug, 2013 @ 11:20pm
Finally figured it out. That first room was itself an asshole. Even after I figured out how to do it there were times when I simply couldn't because of how spot on it had to be, otherwise you'd have to start over. The laser room wouldn't be so bad if I could save my progress on community chambers. Since I can't I had to play the first room over and over again. Also, there is a slightly annoyig glitch where the fizzle screen can destroy an object that is on top of it, even if the object is not supposed to be able to touch the screen.

A great chamber utterly destroyed by one bad experience.
DropTheDodongo 23 Aug, 2013 @ 11:59am
Welp. I found the box in the first room, and now I'm stuck.
ZneX 21 Aug, 2013 @ 6:19pm
Very good - Really enjoyed the laser-platform room . Had to practice it until I had it memorized. The colored door at the beginning sure was a weird effect.

Great J:p2orange:B here. http://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=161164426 please try it out :)

That's certainly an unfortunate situation to find yourself in and I can see your frustration. I designed that particular room so that the player really has to remember the exact order the symbols on the laser receivers are supposed to be activated before they make a move i.e. the player has to think before they act. I think I've mentioned before that I don't really like chambers that are just mindless button pressing and cube placements until the exit door opens which is an idea I've adopted in a lot of these chambers.

Glad you enjoyed it Kitty. Weirdly, this whole chamber was born out of me accidentally finding that little visual glitch on the chamber entrance door while messing around in the test editor. I'd never seen it before and thought it'd be an odd surprise to players (like myself) who usually just walk straight into a chamber without looking.
kwyjibo 1981 14 Jul, 2013 @ 4:32pm
I enjoyed the map. One thing I found unpleasent was in the room with the lifts. . I would save often, but when you save while on a lift, if you die, the game restarts while you're on that lift, but even though the lazer is in the correct spot, it acts like it's not, and the lift drops. If you're in that situation, you have to think quickly when the game reloads to move a portal to another spot, then quickly move it back to get the lift working again. . If you're not able to do that, then you can find yourself in an infinite loop of dying and reloading. .
yes the bees! 6 Jul, 2013 @ 1:30pm
That was quite the challenge! Most of it was fun, and I loved some of the (to me) novel techniques that were required. The orange and blue gel droppers in the main room were, to be honest, a little annoying, since they caused some visual glitches around and on the entrance door and didn't help me solve any of the puzzles . Other than that, I thought it was great. :D

Sorted, both pretty simple little fixes, I try to keep as much of my chambers as white as possible just because it's nicer to be in but obviously there's a few drawbacks to doing this. If you've got the time, you're more than welcome to record run throughs of any of the chambers you haven't done yet, it's all useful stuff to me.
Prototype 3 Jul, 2013 @ 4:56pm
I have again succeeded in skipping most of both rooms. Here is a new demo in a speed run type format (approx 4 minutes) showing my two new bypasses: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vmhk7q4kv1tjeup/neodymium5.dem (the trick in the second room is from Geltastic :P)

If you have any other chambers you'd like me to play (or replay) let me know.
nicklonium  [author] 3 Jul, 2013 @ 2:39am
Great feedback again, thanks. The ways of skipping bits of both rooms have been fixed, they were very minor oversights so they were simple fixes and, fortunately, didn't interfere with the item limit.
I played through Geltastic, it was certainly a lot of fun despite the time I spent getting used to a hammer chamber. I quite liked the mechanic that gives the player just the right amount of vertical momentum from bounce gel underneath the platform with the button on it. I don't think I've seen bounce gel used like that before.
Prototype 2 Jul, 2013 @ 7:06pm
That was quite nice, I died once in the laser room...but not for the reason you'd expect. I skipped some of that room, and most of the other room. I nearly died in the other room, thanks to that death field in the floor. Here is my blind run (in two parts, where I died): https://www.dropbox.com/s/n2w9irgtxz2ftb4/neodymium.dem https://www.dropbox.com/s/23vf950bzxywffj/neodymium2.dem

@VisualBacon Not a writer or in advertising, just a post grad neuropsychology student with a moderate amount of spare time on his hands. Thanks for the compliment, hopefully the chambers will live up to your expectations. Some people just want to watch the world learn.

@tacticalBOVINE The laser room of this chamber is probably the harshest room I've made so far, the idea is for the player to memorise the order of the symbols on the walls to raise each lift to get to the other side. The punishment is harsh for not taking time to do this but it makes a change from the usual pressing of buttons and box placements in most portal chambers.
tacticalBOVINE 18 Jun, 2013 @ 1:02am
This was the most challenging of the your chambers in this series that I have done today (though the fact that it is nearly 1 in the morning may not be helping haha). I love a good challenging chamber however i came across a few issues that were incredibly frustrating: one was that a handful of times when i dropped the initial cube onto the square button after bringing it under the grates, it would go crossways onto the button causing it to not be pressed and forcing me to restart because i could not get to the cube . i also dislike the punishment of death for the most part because one slip up, which seemed to be common in the laser room because you had to act quickly, it forces you to completely restart even though you have done a decent portion of the chamber successfully already. In all i really loved this chamber and the puzzle aspect of it. very well done!

Haven't even played anything of yours yet but wanted to compliment your theme and approach to presentation in your Workshop. Unique and creative. I can't wait. You must be a Writer or in Advertising?

Oh no. Thanks for your help. Why didn't I get that! btw thanks for your good work.
nicklonium  [author] 16 Jun, 2013 @ 7:03am
It's a delicate and quite uncommon method, think magnets i.e. a magnet under a table will still move a paperclip on top of the same table. The clue is in the name/description of this chamber...
karlosdanos 16 Jun, 2013 @ 6:55am
It's all about the grating :)
nicklonium  [author] 16 Jun, 2013 @ 5:14am
Which room? Lasers/lifts, grating on the floor or 2 cubes dropping repeatedly?
karlosdanos 16 Jun, 2013 @ 5:10am
Ok i tried really hard, but i don't get the first room... Fell like an idiot. Played 6 Levels of yours before and had no problems. Anyone has a clue for me?
Whiterock 13 Jun, 2013 @ 8:39am
Funnest map so far. Each room had a clear purpose that was easily identifyable, varying solutions and a creative use of some elements. Quite satisfying to complete, as well.

That said, the two cubes that constantly got fizzled while I was trying to think really irritated me, and I suspect if I hadn't worked out the opening puzzle, the splashing of gels would have given me the same result.
nicklonium  [author] 9 Jun, 2013 @ 3:09pm
Glad you both had fun, the entrance was a simple glitch I stumbled upon while making the chamber and I really liked the strobing effect it provided.
I'm very close to the item limit in this chamber but your feedback has given me an interesting idea on how to improve the faith plates in both rooms, I'll see what I can change when I get the time. Thanks for the feedback and for playing.
nejoow 9 Jun, 2013 @ 2:58pm
nice chamber!

Of course I did the hardest room at last. and went dead ..
but after another attempt, I came to the end
Blue 9 Jun, 2013 @ 2:44pm
Not a bad chamber. The color shifting entrance looks awesome :). The puzzles are nice, but there are way too many chances to kill yourself without wanting to. Faith plates that shoot you into a red fizzler or beams that pull you in. For the faith plates you could place them in the ground with a red fizzler over it, so it is clearly to see you should not step on it. Also adding less water would help alot. you can simply make a pit without water and add some stairs, a teleport or an elevator at the beginning of each puzzle, which makes you start over just the single puzzle instead of the entire chamber.
nicklonium  [author] 5 Jun, 2013 @ 8:41am
Fixed the shortcut at the expense of the laser room which is now a bit smaller. Also found a slightly different way of pressing the button on the wall which I've also now fixed.
Thanks for playing!

Good catch, thanks. I'll be sure to update it some point next week after this PhD interview is out of the way.
󰀉tempeh󰀉 29 May, 2013 @ 6:04pm
There's a shortcut in the room with the gel and light bridge. All I needed to do was paint the high ledge blue, then bounce to the pedestal button.
