Dynamic Triad Media introduces....VAPORWAVE: THE GAME!

Broken Reality is a pleasant, 12 hour experience featuring memes, puzzle-solving, and some of the most visually creative environments I've seen in a game. Three levels in particular are absolutely breathtaking. If you are into vaporwave culture and aesthetics, these levels are 100% worth the price of admission. The game's other strong points are meme-based humor and puzzle solving mechanics. There are a lot of great jokes and references in this game and without spoiling too much...you get to illegally download a car. In terms of puzzle-solving, the game has puzzles similar to the ones featured in PS2 classic Okami. There's no combat, but there are plenty of navigational and timing challenges. Some of the puzzles in the latter part of the game will have you pulling out your hair.

The downside: the story is not straightforward at all. If you are willing to talk to all the NPCs and pay attention to the details in each world you can piece together what is happening. Sort of. The ending happens too quickly and attempts to throw an emotional curveball at the player...but without the necessary buildup to make the ending impactful. Perhaps this is what the developer was going for a jarring ending. However, I do not feel the journey the player experienced had the requisite amount of narrative engagement to warrant any emotional takeaway from the ending but confusion. In short, the ending was disappointing.

First things first, Fibrillation HD is no Dead Space, Silent Hill, or AAA horror game.

That said, it's okay that it is not a AAA horror title, because what it does, it does very well. Fibrillation HD is a surreal, puzzle/walking simulator about the dreams of Ewan Berrington. I have yet to play a game that captures being stuck in a anxiety-filled, directionless nightmare quite like this one, and I say that as a good thing. There were times I was legitimately scared and yelped in shock...which doesn't happen often to me as a gamer! The game is also not without its heartfelt moments.

If you go into the game with that mindset, rather wanting to shoot monsters, I think there is a lot of enjoyment to be had.

Verdict: it's worth the money.

Resident Evil 4, what a ride. I slapped zombies with a fish, fought little old ladies with chainsaws, rode a jet ski, and saved the President's daughter.

9/10 near perfection.

While a decent digital iteration of the real-life board game, there are definitely areas in need of improvement. My main issue is the AI, which is either too difficult or too easy to beat. It would be great if the developers included a set of ranked difficulties for the AI, so the player could choose their level of challenge.

Do you enjoy odd, dream-state games like Yume Nikki? You'll enjoy Strange Telephone. It's not nearly as long or expansive as Yume Nikki, but it does capture the same creepy atmosphere. Worth the $5.00 I paid for it.

I'm an hour into Mad Father and the only word that comes to mind is "dull". The story is not interesting and the narrative the game is trying build is bland. The story of a mad scientist or priest trying to resurrect a loved one has been told in better, more intriguing ways. It's also been done to death.

I'd advise the person reading this review that if they are looking for a scary RPG Maker game to play, play Yume Nikki. It's masterful in its craft nd downright disturbing...and it wasn't even intended to be a horror game! Anyway, do yourself a favor and play it instead of this weaboo's version of a "horror" story.

I have to admit, I'm let down that Dream Diary isn't an open world game like it's predecessor. It's not horrible though, and I wouldn't say it is bad either. It definitely has its draw. As a horror indie title, it's decent. The environments are freaky as hell, and it's cool to see some of the more well-known creatures from the 2D game reimagined into 3D. People who haven't played the original Yume Nikki might appreciate Dream Diary for its cryptic story-telling.

If I had to go back in time, I wouldn't have paid $20 for the game. I would however, still buy the game if it were on sale.

6.5/10 slightly recommend.

I saw this game in my Steam exploration queue, and thought it was going to be a cross between Dig Dug and Spelunky. Turns out it's more Dig Dug than Spelunky, but that's alright because it is still fun. Noise-sensitive bomb bats and spiky hazards give this game a little bit of a strategic touch. Worth the $2.69 I bought the game for.

The pros:
-fun stealth mechanics
-Fun "meta" gameplay mechanics
-Intriguing story
-beautiful levels

The cons:
-poor sound quality (it is hard to hear the characters speaking most of the time)
-not much weapon choice (it really wouldn't of hurt the story or atmosphere to include a better variety of weapons)
-probably only good for one playthrough

Overall 7/10. Buy it when it's on sale (I did)
