Holy Roman Triumph 1.16: Coronation Ceremonies

Description

Elevate your gameplay as the successor to the Empire founded by Charlemagne (starting in 867 with Emperor Louis II of Italy) with a new layer of strategic, offering engaging and non-intrusive features. Participate in a new Imperial Succession System prior to the reformation of the Holy Roman Empire and accumulate a new resource - Imperial Authority. Use your authority for a plethora of options (continue reading if you are curious) and exert your divine right to rule over the Roman Empire.

3.0
With the Roads to Power DLC, HRT:COR received a major update. In addition to a lot of code-revision (to increase performance), additional features are implemented:
  • Hoftag Activity: Gather the princes, bishops, and other high-ranking officials to vote on matters critical to the stability and governance of the Empire. Summon the Prince-Electors!
  • Imperial Cities are self-governing cities that owe allegiance directly to the Emperor, rather than to a regional lord, granting them significant autonomy and privileges within the Empire.
  • Cohesion Mechanic for the stem duchies (Stammesherzogtümer). See "Additional Features" for more information.
  • Historical Coronation Ceremonies for the Basileus of the Eastern Roman Empire.
  • Import of Kingdom of Heaven features: Embrace nepotism and appoint the King of the Romans (Court Position) as your heir-designate. In Romanorum regem electus!

2.0
Alongside the Legends of the Dead DLC, this mod brings a new feature: Coronation Ceremonies. For those of you who remember, these are a conversion of the CK2 event chain made into activities. Catholic feudal kings and emperors must find clergy to crown them, since all power descends from the heavens. Failing to do so results in increasing discontent among vassals (can be toggled in Game Rules). It is expected of the newly ascended Emperor to commence the legendary Italienzug, the expedition to be crowned Holy Roman Emperor in the City of Rome. If you are not a fan of activities, you can raise your army and march into Rome to receive your crown.

  • Open the new window by selecting Realm View (F2) and clicking the glowing Reichskrone which appears above

In this window you will see the current Emperor, as well as candidates eligible for imperial succession. Hover the imperial succession score to get a breakdown of the factors influencing the likelihood of a character getting chosen upon the Emperor's death or exile.

Before the restoration of the Holy Roman Empire and the Ottonian reforms which established the princely-elective succession, the choice of a new Emperor was largely influenced by Frankish and Carolingian traditions. The tradition at the time was for the emperorship to be hereditary within the ruling family, usually passing from father to son or to another close male relative. Powerful nobles, lords and of course the Papacy had significant influence in the selection of the Emperor. Their support or opposition is crucial in determining the success of a candidate.

Forge alliances, expand your territory, scheme and increase relations with the Papacy and the ruling dynasty to strengthen your claim on the Imperial Crown and become the next Holy Roman Emperor.

In this window, you will have access to a plethora of additional features and actions, see below.

  • New Resource: Imperial Authority

Imperial Authority represents the amount of control the Emperor exerts over his subjects.
Gain or lose Imperial Authority as described in the tooltip. Use Imperial Authority for various actions, including subjugation of neighbors; issuing of edicts to address specific needs; proclamation of directives for skill enhancements; increasing the cultural acceptance between the stem duchies; appointing imperial cities and more!
Adjust the rate by which you gain Imperial Authority in the game rules.

  • Converted the coronation event chain from CK2 into an activity for all catholic rulers. For Roads of Power DLC, this feature has been extended to the Basileus of the Eastern Roman Empire. Rulers who are uncrowned do not wear their crowns and receive an increasing discontent malus among their vassals. This can be set in game rules.

Additional Features
  • Centralization:

  • Cohesion:
Stammesherzogtümer are significant political entities, who played crucial roles in the formation of the Holy Roman Empire. Over the centuries, the few Stammesherzogtümer from the time of Otto I evolved into a confusing array of various secular and ecclesiastical dominions, which were held together solely by their loyalty to the Kaiser and belief in his holy mission, but were otherwise independent. These duchies held major cultural and political differences, even their languages, which made governance and unity a perpetual challenge for the Empire.
The Unity, or Cohesion, between these tribes affect the gain of Imperial Authority. Use the same to promote cohesion and steer the destiny of the Holy Roman Empire.

  • New Character Interaction:

Use your accumulated Imperial Authority to vassalize rulers within the core territory of the Holy Roman Empire.

  • New Casus Belli:

Consolidate the lands of the Holy Roman Empire by force and return imperial law to errant colonies.
  • New Decisions & Events

  • This mod was made with compatibility in mind and overwrites zero vanilla files. Should be compatible with most other mods that are not total conversions or add additional bookmarks.
You can safely place it near the top of your playset.
Playtested and guaranteed compatibility with CMH collection.
    Built-in compatibility with Counterfactuals
Works best with The Catholic Trinity (place HRT:COR above TCT)

There is no Holy Roman Empire in this world, but the mechanism is still working. Why?

Greetings, Kaepbora, I only experienced this excellent MOD today.

I encountered a small issue where incorrect code text appeared. After checking, I believe it's not caused by localization translation, but I can't find the reason.

This mod will be updated to 1.17
It is okay if you upload the 1.16 version yourself

This is a story about the Byzantine Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, and the rise of an alternate-history Ottoman Empire. It’s set in a world where Saladin lived until the year 1222 and defeated Genghis Khan.

Sorry, my English isn’t very good, and the message I wrote earlier might have some grammar mistakes. I hope you don’t mind. Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you very much for your time and for creating such a wonderful mod.

I genuinely love your work, and your mod plays an essential role in my storytelling. Unfortunately, the save files crash when the mod is disabled, and I’m very worried that they might not be compatible after the 1.17 update. In the story, the Holy Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire are powerful adversaries and central to the world setting — which is built upon the features your mod provides.

For this reason, I kindly and sincerely ask if you could consider keeping the 1.16 version available for download after the update, so I may continue the novel I’ve been working so hard on.

I hope this message finds you well. I would like to sincerely ask if it would be possible to keep the 1.16 version of your mod available after the upcoming 1.17 update.

I’ve been writing a serialized novel on the Chinese Crusader Kings forum since version 1.15, and the save file I’ve been using as a reference heavily relies on your amazing mod. When the mod updated from 1.15 to 1.16, I spent quite some time ensuring the save file could still function properly, and I’m truly grateful that it eventually worked out.
