Secondary Fire: Enough Rest... [PART 1]

Description
Get up. Enough rest, we need to begin testing.

This is a map that requires the player to only use the Secondary Fire of their Portal Device. Nothing more, nothing less. This chamber has two custom Field elements, both of which had their textures created by FourthReaper who you may remember from the Penrose maps. Overall these chambers are rather small, and rather simplistic, but do require a small amount of thinking in some areas. The last chamber is a map I uploaded to the collection a long time ago called Patience. It's fixed up, and I'm adding the change notes to the bottom of the description.

Two fields mentioned above function as follows:

Force Deflection Field:
A shield wall to say the least. Performs exactly like a metal grate, or a Hard Light Bridge acting as one. Functionally indistinguishable from the two of them, but they're prettier to look at, and at Aperture Science aesthetics are always the top priority, who cares how safe or alike something it is? As long as it makes good science.

Matter Inquisition Field:
Passing through this field will do nothing to you. That's right, not even fizzle away those Portal things you love so much. They will however not allow you to shoot Portals through them, so there's a bit of a Debby Downer for you. They'll also destroy any testing elements that touch it, such as cubes and turrets. So, if you pass through these fields you're laughing, if a turret or a cube does, well just get another one. Their pain is simulated anyway.

Changes made to Patience:
-Added a cube respawn button because, as it turns out, the player could get stuck. That's no bueno, so this new button prevents that.
-Added a glass floor and made the turret signage more noticeable in the back room. This way the Portal surfaces can be seen so that you know what you're shooting at before dodging bullets. Also, this was to show you actually have to dodge bullets. Basically, dodge bullets.

I apologize if the screenshots are lower quality than my others in the collection. My graphics card died yesterday and I'm using an old one I had lying around as a temporary replacement. To take these screenshots at max settings my game was running at two frames per second, at max ten.

Fun facts, because this description totally isn't long enough already.
-The first two actual tests used to be a LOT simpler. Like, you could beat them in 3 seconds, literally. No logical thinking, no fancy test elements or tricks to them. Basically the most boring things you've ever touched. I'm hoping that with this version of the map, they're at least fun, not hard, but fun.

-This map's title is literal in the fact the player is waking up in it, and metaphorical for me. I've taken a long rest from Secondary Fire, and now I have big plans for it. So, it's time for me to stop resting and begin.

-This map has had three versions including this one. The first was made specifically in the style of the mod, "Blue Portals" and the second was made with Portal 2's default white textures and what not. Seriously, here's some old screenshots I posted back in the day and compare it to the chamber now.

Ah, good times....

If you find any bugs, report them to me in the comments. I'll do what I can to fix them all up so that there are no flaws in this map whatsoever.

I'm not sure, but I think I broke the first puzzle?

The sequence for the final exit wasn't that complicated, but pretty satisfying to execute. Good fun.

Are you discontinuing this series? If so can you tell us what the story was supposed to be?

Liked the first chambers (huge fan of the color correction) but the autoportal one was a bit weaker than the others. Mostly waiting.

Clever use of timed portal.....once figured out - then a bit boring just waiting for portals to cycle and move cubes....thanks for creating again.....

Just like the other map, turrets added nothing to the test. The map as a whole minus turrets, everything is great. The yellow fizzler reminded me of srs bsnss's Inquisition map pack:

The last chamber(s) was a bit tedious but I suppose that makes finishing it a little more rewarding. All in all a fun map very well executed.

it was definitely a shock.

I'm not sure how I could have made anything clearer than what it already is, but thanks for the comment, I'll keep that further in mind when making future maps. :p2orange:
