This was the only solution I could find. Is it the intended one?

I'm wondering what those 3 lasers in the inaccessible little room that can be seen in the picture/thumbnail above are for. They must keep some state of something, but what...
zigzagtenniscoe 2 Aug, 2024 @ 9:57am
Okay, so after playing this again, believing I discovered an "alternate" solution, which due to the title of the chamber I believed to be the intended solution, then realizing as I was typing it out that it had redundant, unnecessary steps, I'm now quite confused.

Nevertheless, I think I've found a way to complete without cube swapping OR momentum . I haven't seen this method posted here yet - looking back through the comments it seems to be mostly either/or. Furthermore, this doesn't require any glitches or exploits. Even more interesting, every time I've played this level I think this is the solution I've used.

Sometimes when I play this game I randomly select a few chambers I've already played as "warm-ups" before heading into unfamiliar territory. This is the first time I've really thought about the title of the chamber and what it was supposed to imply.
zigzagtenniscoe 2 Aug, 2024 @ 9:56am
I also suspect my solution is the same as @Miami Mike's -- they also didn't have to cube swap either but didn't mention any cheese. I think it likely Demon Arisen meant for the solution to involve cube swaps but simply overlooked this simple alternate solution.
Miami Mike 20 Jun, 2024 @ 12:55pm
I suspect the title, "Interchange" is meant as a red herring. When I see two cubes I always suspect that it's what I call a "cube swapper", but there's no cube swapping needed here.
SpielSatzFail 10 Mar, 2024 @ 10:32am
Too bad you never fixed the fling-to-the-exit exploit. It feels somehow natural to use the high portalable panels.
I have the correct solution in my mind so I don't feel like playing all of this again.
CatnipMasterRace 22 Dec, 2022 @ 12:40pm
Fun level - only critique is its not immediately obvious that theres a second cube.
Andy T 16 Jul, 2022 @ 8:22pm
Nice leisurely run compare to others you made, I have no idea why "Advanced".
vallibus 26 Jan, 2022 @ 2:05pm
Very interesting map, and I like there is more than one way to reach the exit.
Muzozavr 6 Oct, 2020 @ 5:43pm
Thought I had it all done and figured out with some tricky moves, when... confound it! I couldn't exit!

I did try flinging, of course, but couldn't find a way to pull it off. Besides, it didn't feel "in style" for this particular chamber. Eventually found the intended solution - you sly little trickster. ;) Some moves are a bit repetitive to do, especially if you mess up, but overall a very nice design. Granted, I took more time (about half an hour), but I'd still call it medium-hard. There are levels that take me several hours, so... yeah. :P Great chamber.

(Although, even in the intended exit solution you don't have to swap the cubes *entirely*. Once you get the second cube, it's enough to use the first cube to disable the fizzler again, bring the second cube on the funnel fizzler button, use the funnel and regenerate the second cube , which means that the cubes never fully swap places . Not sure if that's intended or not.)

@jeffrey epstein Thanks! Yeah this map is pretty ancient now, so the description is a little outdated. Glad you enjoyed regardless!
jeffrey epstein 26 Jun, 2020 @ 7:38pm
Nice map, although idk if the advanced rating has become a bit dated considering that I believe there have been maps you rated to be medium-difficult that were harder. Regardless, quality map and a quality designer in yourself.
Petutski 15 Mar, 2020 @ 7:19pm
Excellent map! Solved it both ways. Both fun! Thanks!
canticle 28 Oct, 2019 @ 1:14am
Nice! Once you figure out how to get the second cube, the solution is very close to going through the same steps a second time with the new cube...Once youf figure it out for the first time, minor changes take you to the end Liked it!:steamhappy:

Nice

cool
Demon Arisen  [author] 22 May, 2018 @ 2:47pm
@redinator2000 Thank you! Yeah I'm aware of that exploit with the ending, not much I can do to fix it unfortunately as I no longer have the map file. :( Glad you enjoyed the puzzle regardless!
redinator2000 22 May, 2018 @ 2:43pm
Pretty nice puzzle moving around the first cube. Might have cheesed the end by using momentum instead of the funnel.
Demon Arisen  [author] 13 May, 2018 @ 5:01pm
Thanks! :P

i love you
metadavid 8 Feb, 2018 @ 1:54am
I didn't see this puzzle before. I was pleased and surprised when I solved it. I agree it's about 15 mins and advanced level, though I don't think it was your most difficult, A really excellent design. Thanks!
Hikari 26 Jan, 2018 @ 10:15pm
Oh whoops. Looking back at the comments, this was already discovered. Lol.
Hikari 26 Jan, 2018 @ 10:13pm
Nicely done! Solved it and found an exploit. If you take the two cubes and line them up to open the exit without portals, you can then go to the room that you started in to gather a bunch of momentum to rocket yourself upwards to the platform with the exit. Pretty tough to do, though.
Warmonger 10 May, 2017 @ 10:42am
Tricky. Too bad it took a longer while between I figured out the solution and performed all of the moves again.
Rector 13 Mar, 2017 @ 8:02am
Nice and simple!

I completed the chamber with a different way.

The different is that i use Tractor Beam to go to the exit.

Demon Arisen  [author] 31 Jan, 2017 @ 8:24am
@robertkjr3d That's definitely an exploit, and I am aware of it, but unfortunately I can't access this chamber in my editor to fix it :/ So you'll have to either go back and solve it the intended way, or live with having broken it! :P
robertkjr3d 31 Jan, 2017 @ 8:14am
I didn't cube swap. I thought about it, but I realized I could make the jump. Perhaps this is an exploit. You have that high portal wall that is so close to the portal floor. Well you get momentum going and you can then fire next to the closing chamber... wallah.
Demon Arisen  [author] 28 Jan, 2017 @ 11:54am
@rekntro Thank you! :)
renktro 28 Jan, 2017 @ 11:44am
Amazing!
Demon Arisen  [author] 11 Jan, 2017 @ 3:02pm
@Miami Mike Thank you! Yeah I still need to fix that, I will at some point soon I hope!
Miami Mike 11 Jan, 2017 @ 2:57pm
Excellent! Here are some comments: I call this kind of test a "cube swapper." I recognized it right away but then I wound up swapping the cubes twice and had to start over.

I used the funnel to finish, which is apparently what you intended. I gather that the unintended solution mentioned below is to fling up to the exit level, but I didn't think of that. Yes, you should use grating to stop that, although flinging is a lot of fun.
bullfrog 18 Dec, 2016 @ 1:26am
Excellent puzzle. Took me a while but cracked it in the end by using a method I've used a few times before i.e. using both cubes on one side so you can get to the other side, then respawning a cube to get it back to you , but for some reason I did not think of that until just now:steamfacepalm:. Thank you
Almisuifre 1 Nov, 2016 @ 12:07pm
I'd say it's easier than advanced. A consistent logic puzzle :)
Demon Arisen  [author] 15 Oct, 2016 @ 10:50am
@Spaceminnow Thanks! Yeah you're meant to have to use the tractor beam to get out, been meaning to fix the unintended solution for ages but never got around to it
Spaceminnow 15 Oct, 2016 @ 12:29am
I like what you have created here... I solved it ok :) The puzzle can be made to be more difficult. Maybe a new version with grating on the floor under the cube dropper and grating on the floor panels near the exit. The added grating will force players to get the tractor to get out :)

@zigzag Thanks mate! :)
zigzagtenniscoe 26 Jul, 2015 @ 4:40pm
@Demon Arisen Just finished your map the intended way, that was neat!
Demon Arisen  [author] 26 Jul, 2015 @ 4:25pm
@zigzagtenniscoe Glad you enjoyed it! That's not the intended ending I'm afraid, I have known about the exploit for a while now but never got around to fixing it. Try doing it without flinging like that, the intended way is a bit more challenging! :3
zigzagtenniscoe 26 Jul, 2015 @ 4:22pm
Another amazing map! Not sure if I did the end as you intended though...

I lined up the cubes and fired the laser towards the catcher that opens the exit, then I used the portalable wall and put the portal decently high, went through it, jumped into the pit (portal there) and used the portalable floor below the grating floor next to the exit and used my momentum to fly through the portal and get on the grating to go to the exit.
CoachHines 30 May, 2015 @ 4:57pm
Fun this was, I shall check out your other maps.
mikemoody 12 Apr, 2015 @ 11:59am
Ok that was it. I needed both cubes on the side with the buttons, and then get the tractor beam to the other side and Fry the cube. You little sly fox... :) Real fun.
mikemoody 12 Apr, 2015 @ 11:45am
Well I solved the puzzle but did have to fling myself to the exit. I went back but never could figure out how to do it with the tractor beam. AhHa after reading what "wildgoosespeeder" said in his spoiler I think I know what to do. I will go back and try again. Thanks for a Great Puzzle.
stormsend 2 Feb, 2015 @ 1:49am
A very challenging map. Clever. I spent the most time standing on the button that raises the portal panels. Did that maneuver quite a few times. Couldn't seem to make it line up just right. Oh well. It is a fun map to solve. I'll check out some more of yours. Come visit my shop when you get time. Thanks.
The Bee's Knees 28 Jan, 2015 @ 12:33am
I puzzled over this for ages thinking it was hard before noticing the button on the ceiling, and then it was all easy
Lord Gadeia 21 Jan, 2015 @ 5:12pm
a clever one, it requires thinking to solve it, good map!
wildgoosespeeder 25 Dec, 2014 @ 10:46pm
I had to sacrifice each cube at least once. Is that part of the intended solution?

Also be careful with your glass panes near the entrance and exit. There is an ever so slight crack that forms how they are configured. It can allow portals through! I suggest another layer of protection if you catch my drift. That will fix the issue.
EuroSong 19 Nov, 2014 @ 12:26pm
Hi Demon - you're welcome. If you have a moment, would you mind givine one of mine a go? It's called "Misdirection". It's not as clever as yours in terms of puzzle design: however it's a challenge which is intended to make people think "WTF?" for several minutes, before kicking themselves when they see the solution. I'd really appreciate your comments :)
