Again, I enjoy this gamemode and think it's fun, it's way less egregious than something like Prop Hunt or Zombie Infection, I just don't think it belongs as officially being added.

With Perks and Freaky Fair, you can get upgrades to allow Medics to revive you like in MVM. These maps are both Halloween restricted, and even then only Medics can revive you which makes it less of an emphasis where in this gamemode everyone can do it, making the Arena/Deathmatch part of it less important.
Lo-fi Longcat 14 Nov, 2024 @ 4:59am
For what it's worth, the only arena map mentioned that has revivals in it is Perks, and from what I remember it was very positively received when it was added to the game.
Asomn 14 Nov, 2024 @ 4:55am
VSH is more popular on community servers than Valve servers, and considering only around 30% of the playerbase plays on community servers I think that says something ahout the gamemode being on official servers.

I don't really get your other point, no one has done it before so that's why it hasn't been added makes no sense in terms of it fitting the game. It would be saying like no one has made Prop Hunt or some other wacky gamemode before, so you don't know if it's gonna be added or not!
Woshee 13 Nov, 2024 @ 10:27pm
wtf are you talking about Asomn about VSH after the summer update? That gamemode despite being in Misc gets almost full to full lobbies. Also your take is absolutely horrendous, the only reason revive based arena maps has not been in-game is due to scarcity of said maps, besides Perks, Graveyard, and Freaky Fair, no one has made a revival based take on Arena til now.
Gollum's Lament 11 Nov, 2024 @ 7:32am
Just in terms of visuals, this may be the prettiest map on the workshop right now. it's extremely good. That being said, I wish it supported a more standard gamemode and not just freeze tag.
JAS-C 10 Nov, 2024 @ 9:28pm
I mean, Prophunt was bombarded with thumbs down so even all those shitpost "Donetsk Zavod" maps has better chances to get in game compare to PH but okay.
Asomn 10 Nov, 2024 @ 8:15pm
Smissmas maps usually fit the standard of the game, with some rare exceptions like Krampus. They might not all be good, but they use the standard gamemodes and fit TF2 from a gameplay standpoint, there hasn't been any wacky gamemodes added to Smissmas.

Smissmas is the only real chance for maps to get put in the permanent map pool because most of them fit standard TF2. The fact that prop hunt wasn't added kind of shows this, it could have been last year's wacky community gamemode, but they realized Smissmas shouldn't have stuff like that and thus didn't add it.
JAS-C 10 Nov, 2024 @ 7:55pm
I mean... If it will be pushed to Smissmas update it would be event-only mode too. Just saying.
Asomn 10 Nov, 2024 @ 5:40pm
I do agree that it works well for Arena style maps, I was more so pointing the absurdity of saying respawning is like just reviving automatically and that because it's in PVE it fits in PVP. Saying "are we even playing the same game" to calling out a mechanic that is never used in PVP outside of Halloween maps is pretty ignorant.

I still don't think it fits the stock game however, there is a reason that maps that allow revives such as Perks or Freaky Fair are Halloween only. Reviving takes away the emphasis of the arena FPS side of TF2 , making deaths less impactful. I enjoy the gameplay of this map/gamemode, but it belongs in community servers instead of being yet another community gamemode that dies on official servers after the update is over (VSH).
UEAKCrash 10 Nov, 2024 @ 5:20pm
The cool part about the mode is how it's creating little mini objectives all over the map as players die, and allows for the occasional big comeback moment with a clutch revival when a team is down and it turns the tides. It still plays like mostly standard Arena, but with the chance of coming back when you are out.
UEAKCrash 10 Nov, 2024 @ 5:18pm
But being Arena, you get a team that tends to take the lead have an advantage on protecting frozen players from getting revived, and more chances to revive their own teammates. Plus the capture point mechanic makes it so when it unlocks, a winner is generally going to happen pretty fast, or a team is going to push for it and die because they are down.

There is no way this mode is going to stalemate for long. Every round I've played has been super fast paced, if anything I miss having a little more downtime!

There aren't chokepoints on these maps, they are koth/ arena style, not A/D maps.
Asomn 10 Nov, 2024 @ 4:54pm
"constantly revive automatically", respawning and reviving are not the same thing, you don't respawn in 5 seconds and then immediately get to the objective.

Respawn waves deliberately make it so the other team can push and make the game more interesting, reviving leads to more stalemates since there's way less punishment for dying and both teams constantly have their entire team at the chokepoint.
Asomn 10 Nov, 2024 @ 4:44pm
PVE and PVP are incredibly different, PVE didn't even launch with the game.

Imagine if upgrades were allowed in PVP... oh wait it's called Freaky Fair! Wait, that map plays like shit and is Halloween restricted, hmm.
Stuffy360 9 Nov, 2024 @ 10:33pm
"I don't think being able to revive someone in the game where players constantly revive automatically, and in the pve mode allow players to revive players fits tf2"

Are we playing the same game? Valve has already established that this fine, so I'm a bit genuinely baffled as to why someone would think it doesn't fit.

The map is really cool though
Asomn 9 Nov, 2024 @ 12:30pm
Looks like an Overwatch map. It's a fun take on Arena but I don't think being able to revive someone really fits an arena/team FPS shooter like TF2.

The artpass on this map is immaculate. I hope you'll make a variant for a more standard gamemode as well (ie Koth, like Suijin has both Arena and Koth versions). just so people have that option
radarhead 9 Nov, 2024 @ 8:43am
freyja's done it again holy shit this looks great

DrLuciferWinchester 8 Nov, 2024 @ 1:48pm
you can leave from one roof on red spawn using any class because forget put clips to leave and you can using soldier or demo leave jumping on clips because they is not high enough
Lo-fi Longcat 8 Nov, 2024 @ 9:19am
Thank you for letting us know! Could you please give us some information on where this happens?
DrLuciferWinchester 8 Nov, 2024 @ 8:32am

blargoh 7 Nov, 2024 @ 5:21pm
this is cool sounds more fun than regular arena
JAS-C 7 Nov, 2024 @ 3:02am
@Genuline At first glance it is has close resemblance but if you look closer - it just looks more like Suijin, Sulfur or Reckoner with their view of Asian thematic, chromatically or architecturally speaking.
XeonTrip 7 Nov, 2024 @ 1:14am
woah!!!! it's arena but i actually wanna play it!!!!
Woshee 6 Nov, 2024 @ 10:14pm
bro saying it looks like overwatch despite tf2 doing the cartoony artstyle in a hero shooter first.
[FtR] Football Lezombian (ban) 6 Nov, 2024 @ 8:14pm
Excited! This map plays great ^^
Yume  [author] 6 Nov, 2024 @ 7:58pm
You may love it! Try it first :)
Genuline 6 Nov, 2024 @ 6:45pm
haven't tried it yet so maybe it'd be good as a koth map, but it looks like overwatch + shitty gimmick. nah
Diva Dan 6 Nov, 2024 @ 5:04pm

I just answered and figured someone's comment a bit, bro
Modern Rawrfare 6 Nov, 2024 @ 12:25pm
thats cool and all but this isnt prop hunt
Fox [Vacation Edition] 6 Nov, 2024 @ 12:14pm
Prop Hunt VScript could be fun for many people with only few conditions, which is gamemode being only for community servers, and actual class "balance". Soldier & Demo can find props with splash damage, Engie & Medic easily can heal hunters. My suggestion for class balance is simple: Just make Hunters go only Pyro lol. There are 2 reasons for it

1. Hunters were Pyros since the original PH plugin was born. Prop classes are kept mostly because each of them has unique ability
2. Fire is better use for testing fake props as we all know

FYI, I'm not defending VScript PH, I just suggest how it would be better felt playing it.
UEAKCrash 6 Nov, 2024 @ 10:15am
The mode is a vast improvement over stock Arena, really fun to play and the unthawing mechanic makes for a bunch of fun comebacks at times. Anyone calling it slop is seeing vscript only and not actually trying it. It's well executed and fits the game easily.

The map itself plays very well and is absolutely beautiful.
Delab LeFou 6 Nov, 2024 @ 9:41am
why are people calling this slop? This is perfect for a nice small Winter gamemode, it's arena but with an extra touch to spice up the gameplay. I tried this during playtesting and I think it'd fit perfectly for TF2 (unlike prop hunt)
EthanTheRedHead 6 Nov, 2024 @ 9:26am
OSHA compliant map with those guardrails
Square 6 Nov, 2024 @ 9:24am
I'm afraid of new things.
Iroha 6 Nov, 2024 @ 9:13am
nice looking map, garbage vscript mode
terminid fursona 6 Nov, 2024 @ 8:30am
the most visually impressive map i've seen. damned stunning - i genuinely doubt something like this can be outclassed. fantastic stuff
Katsu! :3 | #HumbleBumbleTF2 6 Nov, 2024 @ 7:22am
I wish I could have had a better time with Himalaya than I did, because the map itself looks utterly beautiful. I just don't like how.. large, this map feels. I feel like it takes a really long time for me to get anywhere in the map, and I'm not sure that's a benefit to the map's design. I don't really hate it so much as I'm just left wanting more from it, I guess. The theme definitely encapsulates the actual layout, which is GOOD, but I just don't think the layout really meshes with me that well. Sad to say a 4/10 from me.
