Also because execution difficulty is unacceptable.

Dislike as second chamber is too time dependent.
G4lvatron 1 Mar, 2023 @ 1:57am
Came here from Fumbly's remake. The first puzzle was very interesting but the solution to the second seemed pretty cheap. I was trying to find some logical way to solve it but in the end it was just ninja moves. Not that it is bad but its not my preferred style of puzzle at all.
Still nice, there are a lot of flashing textures in the first chamber though.

That was more fun than I expected. Good puzzle.

Came here from aftermath (Fumbly Bumbly Edit) (he benned me from commenting for some reason). Didn't play this one at the time. This one is better.
ShaggieIII 14 Mar, 2021 @ 11:21pm
Came here to play before tackling Fumbly's remake. I liked the first one very much and all of it was a visual treat. Cheers.

I know I'm quite late to this but with a recent remake from an author I follow I was curious to see the original map. The ideas here are good, the part I disliked the least was mixing logic with execution difficulty afaik the solution to the 2nd chamber involves air-strafing which isn't necessarily bad, but when there was that bit of non-portalable surface that you had to cross, to me it ultimately felt like that was something you were trying to prevent in the solution. So it felt unsatisfactory when 10 minutes later I had come to the conclusion that it must be intended.

:maglike: Cool whooopeeee! But if you bring the cube to the timer-button area (I don't know why, but let's suppose that this happened) , get out of there and lose the portal, you won't get the cube back. Maybe I'm wrong.
jandlml 24 Mar, 2018 @ 5:14pm
looks like i played this map a long time ago and voted it down. im really sorry about that. it was probably when i first started playing the workshop maps. just finished it again. great map but definitely very tricky at those final moves. the strafing was tuff but i got it. excellent. thumbs way up!
bakamitai 11 Feb, 2018 @ 1:37pm
OMG, both puzzles took a lot of thought and timing! Great work.
Dr. Strangelove 9 May, 2017 @ 1:38pm
Also the timer is generous , which makes the solution easy to execute but harder to find since since it leads you to think of other possibilities, before you realize they do nnot work.

On the specifics it is possible to get the first cube with a fling thanks to the debris in the goo providing a landing spot (coming out from the wall in front of the pressure plate) . There I am pretty sure this is unintended since you can get it more elegantly with the funnel . Also, I do not know if the “increasing difficulty” refers to chamber 2 being more difficult that chamber 1, But I personally found chamber 1 to be the more difficult one (not that it matters, both had a good difficulty level).

PS: double posts, another reason to regret the sad death of TWP
Dr. Strangelove 9 May, 2017 @ 1:37pm
Your maps sometimes leave me with ambiguous feelings. On the one hand I am always flabbergasted by your custom visuals, both at the result (devilishly handsome) and at the amount of work it must take. On the other hand I confess that whilst I really enjoy some of your puzzle ideas, others I enjoy less, i.e. those involve “dirty tricks” (in the technical sense) or difficult executions. This is not necessarily a criticism, others might enjoy that. For me the issue is not so much the difficulty in itself (a few retries usually takes care of that), rather that I’m never quite sure whether this was really intended, or else that I dismiss the idea in the first place (surely it must be something else....).

Anyway, this map I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end, great puzzle ideas throughout. And it may have less custom visuals than others, it still looks great.

Sorry guys, I'll look into it, I'd swear there was a trigger_kill down there :)
gamingdominari 10 Mar, 2017 @ 3:43pm
You can drop off the rail in the beginning and got myself trapped ;-;
Unowninator 1 Mar, 2017 @ 10:53pm
Trapped myself; I jumped off the bridge at the beginning (I thought the goo was grass) and I can't drown or get out.

Thanks everyone! I'm so happy to check that these puzzles worked out good :D

Just finished the first puzzle. Decided to come here to give my approval to this. Excelent map mate. Made me think a lot

Since i can't get out of the water area, please don't tell me that it was meant to be goo, coz even being stuck down there, i'm enjoying it!!!

@VARS.博丽灵梦™: there is an official walkthrough that you can check out in the case you're stuck, it's up there near all screenshots of the map ;) Thanks for playing, and don't abuse the walkthrough if you want to solve it by yourself, just use it to get through a given part...

however i dont how to get over it...please tell me how to connect the laser to open the light ridge

Logic and skills (and aesthetics : you make beautiful chambers!) is a great mixture : skills brings some fun ! After all it's part of Portal's spirit : Momentum, a function of mass and velocity, is conserved between portals : speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out ;)
While mapping, I just sometimes fear that some advanced intended moves can discourage players that didn't figured them out. But it's not the case here IMO. And in the chambers I tested among your workshop, skills always serve a real puzzle : keep up the good work ;)
(advanced things in the other hand can also make great tests for players knowing them or discovering them in !)
HMW 6 May, 2015 @ 11:24am
Oh don't get me wrong, the trial and error thing was fun too! Makes you think at which angle to place portals so you face the right way when coming out of them. That is indeed a callback to the original Portal game, where it was all about multi-stage fling puzzles :)
josepezdj  [author] 5 May, 2015 @ 6:17am
@HMW. Thanks a lot for playing and commenting Rik! <3 I'm glad to hear that you managed to complete it and found it nice! :D About the 2nd chamber, I must admit I've got a good portal-orientation from the original Portal times :p I love flinging because of that, and as I said to Almisuifre, I often can't help adding some skill-based moves to my puzzles, only because I consider that some other players could find them funny like me :)

Cheers!
josepezdj  [author] 5 May, 2015 @ 6:17am
@Sleter (Tullio): Thanks for your always kind words my dear friend <3 I was so happy when you showed me that you eventually managed to solve it! :D

@Almisuifre: thanks a lot for commenting, mate! Ye, I know I often take advantage of some mechanics which are a mixture of logic and skill... probably because I enjoy solving that kind of chambers myself as player :) I wish I could make pure logic chambers and keep being creative, like you do, but to me it always comes easier to hide the solution behind uncommon maneuvers :p Happy to hear that despite those somewhat nasty moves, you enjoyed it!

HMW 5 May, 2015 @ 4:35am
Very nice map Jose! Visually stunning as always. The first part looked pretty complicated at first but was very doable. (I was happy to dicover that the timer is actually there to help you, rather than hinder you :)

I figured out the second part relatively quickly, but it took many attempts before I could pull it off, mainly because of portal-related disorientation. (Many attempts ended with me running around the top floor "whereisitwhereisitwhereisit!!" and then seeing the cube serenely drifting up the not-relocated tractor beam behind me... I did manage it eventually though :)
Almisuifre 26 Apr, 2015 @ 8:50am
A pleasure for the eyes ! As always, it's obvious that he logic is laid out by a skilled player. I guess beginners already hate you ^^
Even if some moves are my cup of goo hehe (cube through grating/air strafing) it has been enjoyable anyway ! Well done !
Sleter 22 Apr, 2015 @ 8:16am
Dear Jose, in addition to being a great teacher in Hammer and Authoring Tools, you are also a great teacher of the game logic and portals.
A great challenge of skill and intelligence that make this map, the best you can find on the WS of Portal 2.
Thanks for sharing :p2chell:
josepezdj  [author] 13 Apr, 2015 @ 12:10pm
@dire.fcs: Thanks for the nice comments and the thumbs up!! <3 Yeah, as I have mentioned already, I'm aware that the 2nd chamber is a bit harder... but let's take the map as an increasing difficulty one ;)
josepezdj  [author] 13 Apr, 2015 @ 12:10pm
@Daoud Baba: thanks for commenting, mate! Glad that you eventually enjoyed it :D About setting the difficulty level for a map I've made, well, to me that is always a really difficult task... I tried my best to define the difficulty for this map, and somehow I found it medium for the 1st chamber (not necessarily because the difficulty level is more or less similar to the campaign or WS front page maps, but because I guess that someone that already finished the campaign and some of those WS maps, can manage this one :P) ... I could be wrong though... but never wanted to cheat anyone, only tried to determine the right difficulty level.

@AerialPosterior: thanks for the feedback, dude! :D I'm glad you liked the first chamber! I'm aware that the 2nd one is a bit harder to figure out and also to perform...

josepezdj  [author] 13 Apr, 2015 @ 12:06pm

<3 Aunque no sé si realmente merezco tales elogios! :p
dire.fcs 12 Apr, 2015 @ 10:05pm
Great work with the first room (competition puzzle), very good layout and portal logic and so the visuals; (the second puzzle is just for average/experienced portal players I think - more difficult to perform than the first puzzle); Thumbs up.
AerialPosterior 12 Apr, 2015 @ 8:44pm
Figured the first chamber out. I liked that one. I didn't enjoy the second chamber though, the solution felt a little too convoluted.
Daoud Baba 11 Apr, 2015 @ 11:25pm
Nice test chamber ! Medium is a wrong level of difficulty...Most portal players will find this one harder than the campaign or front page maps lol ! Anyway, I enjoyed a lot the challenge and visuals of these puzzles :))
Oscarcillo100 10 Apr, 2015 @ 1:44pm

josepezdj  [author] 9 Apr, 2015 @ 2:33pm
@grossedout5: hey boy! nice to see you around! :D Thanks for playing! I'm glad to hear that you beated the map easily ;) My intention was to make a medium difficulty map so I am happy when I see that I achieved my goal, at least for some players :)

I hope that you liked the latest pictures on the mod page, I'm working on it but I don't like to show much yet :p Stay tuned though!

BTW, I uploaded the Solution Video for the map. It's up there beside the screenshots. Here is the YouTube page

Hm, even though the design was AMAZING as always, I was actualy able to beat this one with no problems. And he is posting more screenshots on his Moddb page. What is he up to?????

@Talisac: Thank you so much for the nice comments, mate, and for pointing out those issues, taken into account for a future update. Unfortunately, I'll need to wait up until the vote term is over to to so. I think I still can improve optimisation a bit to reduce the lag. Regarding the crack on the floor on the funnel room at 2nd chamber, well, I wanted it to be like that in order to make it slightly more challenging, otherwise the puzzle is too straight forward :p

@YerMom: well, I realized about the lag after the last update, and I think I can do something to improve playability yet. Will be needed to do it on next month though :/

@kimist108: Thank YOU for playing! :D

@ken.roberts: Thank you so much for your comments! <3 Regarding the lag, I know a lot of details can lead to some lag as Talisac mentioned... however I still think I can improve it in next update. Thanks for pointing out!

Official solution video will be available within today and tomorrow...
josepezdj  [author] 6 Apr, 2015 @ 4:41am
@IVO: hehe... awesome timing solving the 2 chambers! ;) Thanks for taking the time to comment here and on TWP! Glad to hear your rate and favouriting !! :D

@kwinten: Thanks for your comments! Please allow me to answer in English since French language and me never got along :p Well, I must admit 2nd chamber is a bit tougher, maybe for higher skilled players than required for the 1st chamber, however I would not call it ninja level :P ... First chamber was never based in or influenced by Crawler Advanced :) I wish my puzzle would be at least half as good as that puzzle! I had to revisit it to check out why you said so, and It's true that there are a couple of similarities, but nothing intended, really.

josepezdj  [author] 6 Apr, 2015 @ 4:21am
(... Answering pending comments after coming back from Easter holiday :p ...)

@Haggis: Thanks for your super nice comments, my friend! :D I'm so happy that you figured out the puzzles and that you enjoyed the custom items too! <3

ken.roberts 4 Apr, 2015 @ 11:52am
Outstanding as usual. Medium / Hard IMO. Not overly complex environment - so I do not know why I experienced Lag. When I saw how long that Timer was I knew I had a long road ahead of me. Fascinating solution - I hate to admit it but I had to resort to Rector's Video for the Cube "Lift & Drop" trick. Room 2 was no Picnic either. Great Fun ! !
kimist108 1 Apr, 2015 @ 6:37pm
Woo Hoo! Thanks for a brain work-out!
Talisac 30 Mar, 2015 @ 2:11pm
Excellent map, both puzzles are great (and are not easy at all) and design is awesome as usual.

If I have to report some "negative" points, it would be:
- heavy detailed map makes my computer lag a lot (it's a laptop but it is supposed to be far above portal 2 requirements... maybe game engine isn't made for supporting so many details.) This is adding difficulty to jumps, especially in second part.
- I would avoid the "break" in second part ground floor, under the funnel, to easier jump execution
- weird cube behavior, when you try to fling it on the button
Gawdzilla 30 Mar, 2015 @ 2:54am
Why does it lag so much?
kwinten 29 Mar, 2015 @ 5:46am

I wrote what I think about the map in general on thinkingwithportals.com , now the details:
...
...
Hm. I guess there aren't any - I did everything as RectorRocks from start to finish in about 35 minutes.
What I probably did differently from others is that when I got to the second room I started jumping around the hole in the grating out of joy that I managed to solve the first chamber. So I spent about 3 minutes jumping in a circle. #livingmylifeprofitably :D
