At this very moment; I'm currently reinstalling the resubscriptions to the modifications I'd want to use, such as this one.
Why would this be a matter to begin with, though, about the "dx version", though, Orion88 FIN? I simply want the mechanics to be clarified, nothing at all hostile.
I'll also try your experiment, as that's kind of part of computer troubleshooting, and as I was getting at: computers are finicky, and the main thing we'd be interacting with is the program, or with other people via the program, such as a forum online.
jamcarmody Just now
Okay, I thank you, @Orion88 FIN, if only for the layout of the instructions on how to do that.
Oh, and to be more clear on my part, what the gameplayer is doing is akin to running a nationstate, what the *game developers* have done, whether it works or not, is to make what's called a "universe generator" as it were... now whether it works or not is another issue, if it works: it is marvelous, if it does not, it is basically a massively frustrating pain in the neck frankly, especially if it did for a while and then fails.

@jamcarmody Here are the instructions for the dx9 start:

"Right click on Stellaris in your Steam library -> choose Properties -> And write to the Launch options "-dx9" (without those "" marks obviously) and then launch the mod. This should then launch Stellaris and the mod in dx9 instead of the standard dx11 that might help performance on lower end machines. You can see what dx version you have in use from Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/system.log.

!Also notice that if you do this and then in the future want to switch back to dx11, you need to then at least once write "-dx11" to Launch options as otherwise it will just say in dx9 mode!"

Now will it help in your case don´t know, but if you have already tried everything else perhaps worth a try.

I was drawing on gameplay to address a possible solution to issues in all areas: correct the core issue, and the rest self-corrects almost automatically.
Some problems cannot, some problems need a much keener mind, typically psychological problems than man can attain, but even there: studying sanity can help; so the same principle is at work: either address the symptoms and have the problem get progressively worse until it destroys you, or address the core issue, ignoring the symptoms as much as possible, and the symptoms will remove themselves from existence as time goes on.
One example for this is if you're dealing with basically the game's equivalent of Leninist pirates, increase the private sector and fortifications by arming the citizenry; and the problem will remove itself.
jamcarmody 18 minutes ago
I mean, the production of civilian goods; things I was trying to spend, while increasing the mineral gains, went *way* up; I'm not joking; it was before I began to equalize the pay-grades as it were by rights to the assets; about 1 to 2 thousand as a profit of civilian goods; with no focus of economy either way, but when I put *everybody* I could to decent living standards: lets just say the production of civilian supplies went up to 9 thousand a month at least, and sufficient minerals to at least do my job!
That's kind of what I mean by if you address the issue at core, the rest of the problem will kind of self-solve.
jamcarmody 39 minutes ago
To put it another way in the gameplay of this: say you keep on having things like slave-revolts: the solution is to increase the just treatment of them, and the problems, like sabotage, will self-correct, and believe me: ff you increase the rights of all your country's inhabitants: your productivity will skyrocket, especially with the very newest version: 4.0.21 so far! I did that in the playing of the game prior to it refusing to get to the launch selection of game options, and it worked beyond my wildest dreams!
jamcarmody 39 minutes ago
I mean it, @G-Man, your advice may well work perfectly, I simply want to understand the *mechanics* involved so this doesn't keep on happening!
You may well be very much spot on, if not fully accurate on how to solve it, but the problem will continue until the core issue is resolved- that's what I'm up to: to translate this stance into a wargame analogy akin to this: I'm talking about finding the main base of the problem and addressing it at its base, then the rest of it should kind of self-solve.
jamcarmody 1 hour ago
@G-Man; your gamble of removing and then reinstalling the game may well work, but *why* this is the issue is what the question is.
jamcarmody 1 hour ago
@Orion88 FIN; what do you mean by a "dx9 launch"? I haven't heard of that term nearly enough to know what that is; let alone knowing how to do it.
And that's just to begin with.
@G-Man, for reference, the game worked fine until about two days post the update to 4.0.21, the version I've been using, and post a few days of playing that; it fails to launch, I'm far more interested in *how and why* this happens, to prevent it from happening on my end than anything else, but solving that would also solve most of the problems at that.
Removal or hiding of the replies will not help you at all, if anything, the mere idea to do so may well make it infinitely worse for all those remotely in charge at all, due to poor character content on the part of even one of them once.

I started as a few different races and noticed that powers like UE and the Cards don't start with beam weapons when AI controlled, but when I start as either they do have the beam weapons in place. The Vulcans and Andorians don't have beam weapons on their ships or stations when AI or human controlled. The Romulans and the Klingons seem to start with beam weapons if human or AI controlled. They all have their version of beam weapon tech to start so it isn't missing tech that seems to be the issue.
shysilenthonor 3 hours ago
Just wanted to let the mod team know that it seems that beam weapons are missing in most races starbases and ships orange beam weapon mounts.

opengl run maybe a alternative idea
Orion88 FIN  [author] 3 hours ago
And if the below does not help: How about just for fun try the dx9 launch. Instructions for that can be found from discussions: Unofficial community suggested option for 8 gigs of RAM systems.
G-Man  [author] 3 hours ago
You should try deleting the entire Stellaris folder inside your Documents (usually found at Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris).
After that, do a fresh reinstall of the game and resubscribe to the mod from scratch.

This exact issue has been resolved for many players by doing that.
Initially, we thought it was just the settings.txt causing the problem (which did help others), but in your case — and many similar ones — fully clearing out the Documents folder was the key.

Let us know if that helps!

If you are still experiencing a crash to desktop when pressing "New Game" go to C:\Users\name\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\ and remove your settings.txt.

Cory 9 Jul @ 4:52pm
Thank you ( all of you?) who continue the work on this mod. Still the best mod I've ever played.
Darth Aldanath 9 Jul @ 2:47pm
Can Jamcarmody be banned from using this mod? Maybe even exiled to a far away island? Is that within the limitations of the mod?
G-Man  [author] 9 Jul @ 1:57pm
@Noxius thats terrible.
but untill you get it running, you still can roll back to 3,1415.... version and using the old version of stellaris. then you can wait for the final stable patch here and checking if its working.
carre uploaded the old version of stnh.
Noxius 9 Jul @ 1:16pm
My game still crashes in the main menu after the HF - what can I do? I've uninstalled the mod, I've uninstalled the game, I've deleted the folders, I've done a fresh install, no other mod is running, but the game still crashes. I can work around the problem if I host an MP game, but I would still like to go into single player.
shysilenthonor 9 Jul @ 1:02pm
Thank you to all who make this mod work. Your work is appreciated more than you will ever know.

NHV 0725 The Final Frontier - (03bbcb)

Patch is now live.

@jamcarmody, i suggest you buy a game somewhere, and if it doesnt work you can argue with the devs that this is not what you paid for. expecting professionalism, perfect "products" and timely reactions from people who do all this work in their free time providing you content for free is so utterly presumptous and ungrateful. furthermore if you think you know everything better, why dont you start your own modding product? in my humble opinion, your stance here is just impossible.
G-Man  [author] 9 Jul @ 4:50am
Dear jamcarmody,

I get the impression that your perception of reality differs fundamentally from that of most others here. Terms like “professionalism,” “Microsoft,” or “CEO” in the context of a simple bug report seem out of place and do not contribute to a constructive discussion.

We want to ensure that this space remains open to those who want to report actual bugs and help stabilize the open beta as quickly as possible. To make that possible, we will unfortunately have to remove future posts from you that deviate this far from the topic.

Still, thank you for your previous input, and we wish you all the best.
Farewell.

I feel like i missed some drama..

:D
kermnelson 8 Jul @ 10:59pm
Well the reason I have not been on for 7 hours is that after the second double download while I was posting here 7 hours ago I went back to the game and everything worked fine. Thanks again for the hard work of whoever checked my system and apparently fixed the game for me. BTW if my last post seemed a bit unclear I had to edit lots of details to make the post fit the size limits.
warlord sith brandon 8 Jul @ 7:25pm
ITS NOT WORKING IS BORKEN
jamcarmody 8 Jul @ 6:41pm
That said; the mere fact that these typically *work* should disqualify the claim of the devs being "nazis"... it is really simple, though, @Kermnelson; you didn't break the game, I know because our accounts do not have a connection and I'm undergoing roughly the same problem, and I only have *this* modification active, and no, it worked until about today in fact, with easily enough memory on the machine.
Something happened with the programming since then, I don't know what.
jamcarmody 8 Jul @ 6:41pm
I mean, it is the propensity for error in the category of simple typos, combined with the repeatedly functional program of this in particular that alone removes forever the claim of thinking the devs are "nazis", @G-Man; yet the "office model" of the culture I sincerely hope is also NOT that... oddly enough, that's also the business model that demolished Microsoft's edge some time ago... had something to do with a new CEO they got; and a culture in the workplace of rivalry, including workers breaking eachother's projects, and a type of "peer review" emphasis in the work world of the time, I remember that kind of thing all too well.
jamcarmody 8 Jul @ 5:58pm
@Kermnelson; same general problem seems to be going on here with the situation.
@Russ; that remark of yours is both uncalled for and profoundly unprofessional at core!
jamcarmody 8 Jul @ 5:56pm
Now, the item is just how error-prone programming can become, and I mentioned only a few items and potential problems; and to the official here who referred to a "sarcastic vulcan salute", that's not only unprofessional of you, sir, it is also profoundly uncalled for!
Especially when the issue is that the program tends to malfunction- now some good news *can* be sent in; I was able to get the game to work, yet *was* is the vital term; and while it *should* be all the time, the situation with this particular game kicking out upon reaching 100% of the very first loading of the two, where you'd go into to select your nation or even to select a saved game; that's where it ceases to work... I'd not bring this *here*, except that the server refuses to accept the error report.
When I did get some readout, it *said* something about a runtime error; but it is specific to the game, and no, it is NOT a shortage of memory.
jamcarmody 8 Jul @ 5:56pm
@G-Man; it is way more like the reality is that nobody would submit a file to this for the game without double-checking, and I was, for the record, getting at just how easy it is to mess up a computer program to begin with... but the discord server is out of the question for anybody who's remotely sane; due to the misconduct of the moderators there, time and again.
At least here the item has some odds of being redressed.
Russ (STNH)  [author] 8 Jul @ 3:36pm
For those who are having issues with a new game, but not running the random/mp maps (fix for this is due in Hotfix 2) then I'd ask if you could upload your error.log to our discord server.... except the crazy person, you sir get the sarcastic vulcan salute.
kermnelson 8 Jul @ 3:35pm
I crash the mod - loading from 1 to 100% more quickly than normal. After 100% in ST:NH, my computer loads more of my 32 GB of memory from high 40% towards low 60%. Now - before the “Game screen” loads to start a new game screen the ST: NH mod crashes to desktop. Steam shows green “Stellaris – running” on the list, the Stellaris display shows blue “Stop X” and feedback box appears to report my experience. I can force finish the “Stop.” But I get the same crash trying to launch the ST: NH. I verified the files, somehow a second verification launched and d/l two items. I check non-modded Stellaris and it fully loads. I launch the ST: NH mod after reaching 100% load the mod crashes before launching the new/load game screen. I played yesterday and this morning. Just some feedback, thanks again for all the hard work. I've got two more items d/l - for Stellaris? I hope things are fixed.
417Shriv 8 Jul @ 2:07pm
an you pick the empires you want to see in your game or are they randomized?
SaltyObject 8 Jul @ 1:04pm
@G-Man its up look whenever you guys are free. Keep up the amazing work you guys do!!!
G-Man  [author] 8 Jul @ 1:57am
Yeah, the first idea is good, write down on discord is always good.
Thx
SaltyObject 7 Jul @ 7:58pm
@G-Man I have more idea's as well I can make a suggestion form in the discord channel if you would like.
L0NE SL0TH 7 Jul @ 11:30am
Just wanted to say how much I love this mod. You guys have been amazing for years and you just keep going. Hope you keep going for many more years. Also, just love the pics for the difficulty now. Cadet made me lol !!
SaltyObject 7 Jul @ 9:43am
@G-Man I had the thought of a unique crisis for them. Having to do with them accepting or rejecting doctrine when they meet the humans. I also like every part of them so any updates to them would be appreciated <3
DHKai 7 Jul @ 8:11am
@Orion88 FIN Thank you!!
kermnelson 7 Jul @ 7:56am
Thanks gentlemen!!! I always start small BotF map. Mostly I'm still cheesing (cheating) my Garidian start.
pgames-food 7 Jul @ 6:08am
note: best thing to do, is to find all your paradox folders for stellaris game (like in app data and mydocs) and make a backup with steam closed, and then rename them slightly, and start steam. that way when stellaris launches, its almost like launching for the 1st time, and it should re-create those fodlers for you and original configs etc
pgames-food 7 Jul @ 6:07am
@jam hi if you get a chance, try to play with the 3.14 version if the newer one doesnt work properly for you.
(i havent tried the new one yet, as am still in a 3.14 game, which was the latest version at the time but it hasnt crashed at all for me, and im playing borg lol - only the couple of questions i had for borg i posted further down, but apart from that it seems to work great)
Orion88 FIN  [author] 7 Jul @ 5:51am
@DHKai are you talking about rolling back to 3.14? As that version is available, just check Carré's post in Discussions here.
Orion88 FIN  [author] 7 Jul @ 5:01am
People who are getting a crash when clicking "New game" do you have custom (user created Stellaris) empires and if yes what kind of empires? Also the best place to report comprehensively about issues is the mod´s discord.
DHKai 7 Jul @ 4:43am
Thank you G-Man and team for all the hard work on this mod! But is there a way to roll back the last update?
G-Man  [author] 7 Jul @ 4:40am
@saltyobject ideas to improve the voths?
I love to play the voth ad well, i want to hear ideas to create more flavour
