Project RPG is not an RPG at all, but simply a few GameGuru tutorial maps[www.game-guru.com] cobbled together, with the first map being the Project RPG tutorial. It’s very disjointed as it starts out in medieval town then progresses to the Asylum, then a haunted mine and wrapping up at a Middle East terrorist outpost. Each tutorial map is only about 5 minutes long, but each loading screen is another 5 minutes.

Pixel to the West seems to be a remake of the developer’s other game Pulut Adventure, but now in a 3D world. Unfortunately, it suffers from many of the same problems. The biggest being there is no clear direction or innovation. The game appears to be made from the Santa Claus Is Coming to Town Unity Asset Template[assetstore.unity.com] - being a demo game to showcase the Moenen-Voxel-Collection. That’s how the game feels too. There are random enemy assets spawning all over the place. From bunny rabbits to cows and other livestock they all attack you for no apparent reason. Enemies will spawn in walls and clip through floors. Although there is a story this time, it’s just some fragmented dialog between the main character and the bosses encountered. The bosses are just as random as the other enemies, ranging from a Yeti to an octopus and even a golden Buddha. They just proportionally larger than the other enemies and walk back and forth with a visually large health bar, but are brainless and easy to defeat by just running right up to them. Once defeated the player is taken to some other random disjointed map with no explanation other than to display new assets.

The gameplay is similar to Pulut and is mainly a hack n slash, but we are given a flying and shooting ability, which makes it an incredibly easy SHUMP. Just fly around and avoid the enemies altogether. There is another ability to summon creatures, but that doesn’t seem to work at all and the ability to change into a creature is pointless as they are much weaker than the main character. A new annoyance is the camera, which requires the player to constantly hold down the right mouse button for it to move. The whole thing feels rushed and not very enjoyable. There are some nice eye catching areas in the game (showing off the Moenen voxel assets) and some of the dialog can be humorous, but in the end it’s not really a game, but more of a quick cash grab and should be avoided.

Pulut is a game with no identity of its own as it uses assets and mechanics from many other games that feel very dysfunctional. It starts out as a Super Mario Bros abomination, the player is later given a sword – changing it into a hack n slash, and finally we are given shooting and flying abilities from a SHUMP type game. The level design never keeps up with these abilities to properly utilize these skills and challenge the player. By the end of the game it just feels like a bunch of cheat codes are enabled. The game just can’t decide what it wants to be and with no story to tie it all together or give it purpose. In the end it doesn’t feel like a game at all, but more of a weekend project someone would share freely with family or close friends.

Golden Dungeons is a mediocre platformer with some broken mechanics. It mostly focuses on traversing falling platforms with variable jumping. I’m on the fence about recommending it. It reminds me a little of the old Jungle Hunt game with just how annoying difficult it is combined with the character graphics. Usually falling platforms will re-spawn, allowing the player to circle backward or adjust timing, but in this game they do not, which makes it even more frustrating. It also has some other minor annoyances, such as the menu screens switching between using a keyboard and mouse, but you never actually need a mouse when playing. Some of the level design though is fairly well done and keeps things interesting. So if you are a patient person and like a challenge then it may well be fun for an hour or so.
